874 Junior Engineer Posts — Three Departments, One Combined Exam, Priority-Based Allotment
The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board has opened combined direct recruitment for Junior Engineers across three departments — Public Works Department (PWD), Water Resources Department, and Public Health Engineering Department. It's a single recruitment drive, but candidates must submit separate applications for each department/post-category they want to be considered for, and rank their department preference carefully — because RSSB allocates departments strictly by merit-cum-priority, and that priority order locks once you submit.
One application per post category — priority order is final. If you want to apply for JE posts in multiple departments, you must submit a separate application for each. Once selected, department allotment goes strictly by category-wise merit combined with the priority order you filled in — and no correction to that priority order is accepted after submission.
Department-Wise, Category-Wise Vacancy Table
| Department | Post | Non-Sched. Area | Sched. Area | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PWD | JE (Civil) – Degree | 329 | 22 | 351 |
| PWD | JE (Civil) – Diploma | 41 | 01 | 42 |
| Water Resources | JE (Civil) – Degree | 72 | 00 | 72 |
| Water Resources | JE (Civil) – Diploma | 144 | 35 | 179 |
| Public Health Engg. | JE (Civil) – Degree | 44 | 03 | 47 |
| Public Health Engg. | JE (Civil) – Diploma | 133 | 18 | 151 |
| Public Health Engg. | JE (Mechanical/Electrical) – Diploma | 30 | 02 | 32 |
| Total | 793 | 81 | 874 | |
JE (Civil) – Diploma in the Water Resources Department carries the single largest chunk at 179 posts. Scheduled Area vacancies can only be applied for by local residents of Rajasthan's Scheduled Areas.
Exam Pattern
| Part | Subject | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Part-A | General Knowledge (Rajasthan History, Art & Culture, Heritage, Geography, Political & Administrative System) | 40 |
| Part-B | Subject-Specific Engineering (Civil, or Mechanical/Electrical as applicable) | 80 |
| Total | 120 Marks, 2 Hours | |
All questions are objective, multiple-choice, and equally weighted. Minimum qualifying marks are 40%. Each wrong answer deducts one-third (1/3) of that question's marks. The exam mode may be CBT (Computer Based Test), TBT (Tablet Based Test), or offline OMR-based, tentatively in February 2027 — the Board reserves the right to change the date.

Horizontal Reservation Highlights
- Women get 30% horizontal reservation, category-wise, proportionally adjusted within their respective category.
- Within the 30% women's quota, 8% is reserved for widows and 2% for divorced/separated women, as per rules.
- Ex-servicemen get 12.5% reserved posts as per Rajasthan Civil Services (Absorption of Ex-Servicemen) Rules, 1988.
- Outstanding Sportspersons get 2% reservation, applicable only to those meeting specific national/international-level participation criteria as notified.
- PwBD candidates get horizontal reservation strictly limited to the specific disability categories notified for each department (varies by department — check the disability category table in the official notification for your target department).
Scheduled Area Posts — Special Conditions
- Only local residents of Rajasthan's Scheduled Areas can apply against Scheduled Area vacancies.
- Non-Scheduled Area residents can also apply for Non-Scheduled Area vacancies, and Scheduled Area residents may be considered for both — but must state their preference at the time of document verification if selected under both.
- If a candidate doesn't mark the Scheduled Area column in their application, their candidature won't be considered for Scheduled Area posts at all.
Candidates from outside Rajasthan are treated as Unreserved, regardless of category. If you're a domicile of another state or Union Territory and belong to SC/ST/OBC/MBC/EWS, you'll be treated as a General category candidate for this recruitment — you must apply and pay fees under the Unreserved category, since your home-state category certificate carries no reservation weight here.
A Few More Rules Worth Knowing
- Candidates who skip two RSSB/RPSC exams in the same financial year (April-March) will have their OTR blocked — reactivating it the first time costs a Rs. 750 penalty, and a repeat offense doubles that to Rs. 1,500.
- Final-year students awaiting results can apply, but must acquire the required qualification by the exam date — not just by the document verification date.
- Married male candidates with more than one living spouse, and women who marry such a man, are not eligible for this recruitment.
- Candidates with more than two children born on or after 1 June 2002 are disqualified, with specific exceptions carved out for twins, adopted children, and pre-2002 child counts.
- PwBD candidates must hold a valid UDID (Unique Disability Identification) card at the time of applying — this is mandatory, not optional, per the latest departmental guidelines.
A practical point worth flagging: candidates with more than one eligible qualification (say, both a Civil diploma and a relevant degree) can choose multiple post options — but only within a single department application, and only against the qualification they hold. Given how granular the department-wise vacancy split is, it's worth mapping out which combination of department and post category genuinely maximizes your chances before filling the priority order, since that order becomes unchangeable the moment you submit.
